Lowering The Bar

When the kids are sick and mom doesn't feel so hot either...

The laundry can wait.
Clean floors will happen another day.
Frozen pizza will do for dinner.
Martha Stewart will be a continual dream.
The TV will be our friend.

Every tear will be accounted for.
Every request will be nurtured.
Every hot cheek will be soothed.

I will nap with my little one because he needs me.

The computer will rest.
And we will all, eventually, be well...

and probably better off than before.

Yuck, so sorry to hear that you guys are now sick! It seems like everyone in our area is also getting hit by various bugs, but the good news is that it seems to run its course within 48-72 hours. Hope you guys are feeling better soon. In the meantime, enjoy those boys - you've got the right idea, B-Mama! Sometimes when the kids are sick, it's the perfect opportunity for us to spend more one-on-one time than we would usually...No fancy dinners or grand cleaning plans to get in the way :)

I hope you all feel better soon! I just hate it when everyone is sick.

I love this. Your words are true and inspirational. I am so sorry that you all are sick, but I think a little quarantined family time can have it's up sides, and I am glad that you are seeing it.

I am going to be a downer for a moment, but I have to add:

Can I ask you to pause to remember that we are so blessed to be living in a time and place when most of these bugs going around are not life threatening to most of us? When a child is feverish, we can't help but worry a little bit, but it gives me so much sympathy for those who do not have access to clean water and food, to those mothers you see walking miles to get to a hospital with a dying baby in their arms. We only see this on television, but in many places it is a sad reality that a child has a limited chance of making it to age 5.

And, in our own country, for those people who do not have access to healthcare, and for those families with special health concerns for whom this cold/flu season is a very scary time.

Our Lady of Hope, Pray for Us!

Mary Alice, GG and I were talking about our fortune with modern medicine just last night. And while we are blessed with so many medical advancements, there are still so many without good care and resources.

The Ox Cart Man has made its way from the library to our home thanks to your wonderful recommendation. The kids and I have greatly enjoyed reading it. I was telling GG last night of its beauty and simplicity. He remarked that while living a life with such purpose back in the day was very beautiful, it was a really hard life. We can romanticize the simplicity, but the people worked really hard and faced great calamity, especially regarding disease, etc.

We are blessed to have the things we need, I just wish we could live more purposeful lives like those in the book!
