Abortion Hurts Women

While most of us know this to be true, it is nice to see some secular sources finally acknowledging that abortion is not always in the best interests of women.

Women may be at risk of mental health breakdowns if they have abortions, a medical royal college has warned. The Royal College of Psychiatrists says women should not be allowed to have an abortion until they are counselled on the possible risk to their mental health.

This overturns the consensus that has stood for decades that the risk to mental health of continuing with an unwanted pregnancy outweighs the risks of living with the possible regrets of having an abortion.

Of course women are depressed when they have an abortion. Why? Because the interest of mother and baby are always intertwined--contrary to the professions of the pro-choice movement. It's just the way God made us!

In my senior thesis at Princeton I focused on the negative psychological impact of abortion on women, highlighting the high rates of depression and "post-abortion" syndrome after the abortion procedure. It was difficult to find mainstream sources acknowledging this link, so this article in the London Times is a pioneer of sorts.

The article also touches upon the very important issue of informed consent.

The Royal College of Psychiatrists recommends updating abortion information leaflets to include details of the risks of depression. “Consent cannot be informed without the provision of adequate and appropriate information,” it says.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Concern for womens health demands that women are informed of the increase risk of depression after abortion. It also demands that women are informed of other risks--like breast cancer. But in the US, these studies are either not performed, or performed and not published because it isn't politically correct to claim that abortion causes any problems for women. After all, abortion was legalized to promote woman's rights and if it isn't good for women, why should it be legal?

How frustrating that such issues are kept in the dark due to the pervasive nature of the pro-choice mentality! Yet why isn't the pro-life movement making a greater effort toward bringing some of these pro-women findings to light in the media and through their campaign? It is frustrating, to say the least! (But also heartening to know that the Brits are acknowledging it!!)

yeah, frustrating indeed. Thanks for the link on the story MaryAlice. On another note, how do you put a hyperlink in the comments?

I usually open a new post and put the link there and then flip to the Html version, where I copy and paste the html code into my comment! :)

B-Mama,
Good suggestion on the hyperlink, but I think that will only work for the builders. Does anyone out there know if us lowly readers can include hyperlinks in our comments?
Thanks

okay, it is hard to explain coding in the comments becuase if I write any codes the computer is going to read them as codes. But, here is a quick HTML tutorial: at the bottom of the "Leave your comment" portion you will see that you can use HTML codes and they list things in triangular brackets. Codes open in brackets, and close with a backslash and the same letter in brackets, so to make something bold, you would put a bracketed b, then the text you want bold, then a bracketed slash b.

To do a link, the code is "a href= the web address" text you want to link "/a"

Replace the quotation marks with the triangular brackets.

Wow! I'm glad this story out of HHS is getting around. My husband is the Chief of Staff for the Assistant Secretary of Health at HHS and had to do some serious work to get this issue to Secretary Leavitt's desk. We were very pleased with the Secretary's strong response to any threat to pro-life obgyn's ability to follow their moral compass.

Now if we could just get the Bush administration to push forward Reagan's Title X regulations that helps slow the tremendous flow of tax money into Planned Parenthood. Check out http://www.frc.org/get.cfm?i=WU08C11 for more info - scroll down to Time to Fix Title X. My poor husband has been pushing this for seven years now in the adminstration, and it has been really frustrating not to be able to get this done even when we have a pro-life president!

People wear these little pink ribbons to show their concern and awareness for breast cancer and what I want to say to them is, "Wake up! Breast cancer is an epidemic because it's caused by the pill and other forms of contraception and abortion!" Why can't these feminists see their mistake and see that women are guinea pigs of the medical industry. Look at all the patches and pills that come on and almost immediately off the market because of their health risks to girls and women. I know way too many women who died from breast cancer. They had their 2 children, went on the pill and then died of breast cancer. Hello! Now when you're in the middle of delivery, it has become standard practice for the administrative nurse to ask the suffering mother between her contractions if she wants to get her tubes tied after the birth. Last time they asked me this, I said, "Are you kidding me?" Culture of death.
