Why We Need to Buy a Hybrid

I know, we just moved from Chicago, which has the most expensive gas in the country apparently...But it's not much better down here in TX! I've heard mixed reviews on hybrids from friends who own them...Some say that they're not sure they're actually saving money, and that they save less gas as the car gets older. Also, they say that if they have the A/C going, they're really not saving much at all. But this is all just what I've heard, I don't have any personal experience with them.

Yes, it cost me $70 to fill my minivan last week. Fortunately, we bought in an urban town with train access to the city so we only need one car, and we only fill it up 2 times per month. The price of gas makes suburban living pretty expensive!

I have a Prius. We've had it for 3 years now. The mileage does get worse as it gets older (pretty sure this goes for all cars not just hybrids) and when you run the A/C (and yup that goes the same for your regular car as well). But even still I get around 42-44 mpg sometimes down to 40 but that is only when I drive a ton around our area (worst for hybrids because it is lots of hills...hybrids like city flat driving and highway steady driving the best).

Anyway I love it. Couldn't love it more. I have heard great things about the Honda Odyssey which isn't hybrid but switches to fewer cylinders during certain times.

I'd jump for joy if our bill was under $80. How much would I love a smaller car!?!

My parents were on a trip recently and rented a Prius and LOVED it! Kate e., they echoed your praise of the vehicle and loved that the car always displayed how many mpg they were getting while doing different types of driving! Pretty cool! My dad is about ready to go buy one... :)
