If you eat brown organic eggs, this is just a friendly reminder (mostly to myself) to BUY WHITE EGGS if you plan to dye some for Easter. I forgot last year.

Try it with brown eggs! They give lovely deep colors.
Anon--What kind of dye do you use to color the brown eggs? Does it work with natural dyes b/c the colors tend to be more muted...I haven't had luck with it.
They did this great dyeing at school with tissue paper and water...but I had to miss it so my husband is the one with the directions :) Jack loved it, so when I see my hubby next (we are on vaca without him) I will get the details and share, it seemed easy and fun and a nice alternative to all the little cups that I think work better with older more patient kids ;)
I just did a little research on the tissue paper egg dyeing (great input Kate E--thanks!) and it seems all you need is ART tissue paper (the gift wrap version is colorfast and won't work), water, and plastic wrap. Dampen the egg and place the tissue paper onto the egg followed by plastic wrap, press lightly and remove. Set the egg aside to dry. To create a specific design, cut the tissue to a particular shape and follow the above instructions. You may have to dampen the tissue before placing on the plastic wrap to get the desired effect. Good luck! I'm going to try this...
