What is it that is so amazing about mothers, really? Just having her here, knowing she's present is such solace to me. She knows what I like and dislike. We laugh at the same things. She helps me see the humor in my sons' crazy antics. She still knows what's best for me and orders me to take a nap and slow down. She just gets me in a way that others do not. And why? Because she birthed me, raised me, scolded me, loved me... through the many years, days, minutes, and seconds. She's my mother. And thank goodness for her!
Oh mothers. Thank the Good Lord for mothers.
Here's to hoping that someday I might offer my children the same warmth, support, encouragement, and love that my mother offers me.
Thank you, Mom. So glad you're here.

I love your mom too! So glad she has arrived and is taking such great care of you. Praise God!!!
Amen to that! I wish that my mom was here to take care of me today, too :)
Different but the same: we're moving this weekend. I'm five-ish months pregnant and our first is 13 months old. And I've just found out that my mom is going to be able to come and stay with us for a few days next week.
And just knowing that has calmed me considerably and made everything seem so doable.
Moms are great!!
Wow, I know Anne in "real life"! Funny what happens in the blogosphere. Anne does have a wonderful mom. And a wonderful mother-in-law for that matter. I will be praying that the move goes smoothly for all involved :o)
I'm jealous. Wish I knew what that was like. Hope her visit is a good one!
Indeed, thank the Lord for good mothers! You can't take for granted that the woman who birthed you, raised you and loved you will be a great solace when she comes to help around the birth of a child. My mother loves me, but when she came to visit after my baby was born she was high maintenance and largely added to my stress, despite all her doting over her grandaughter. I only hope I can offer the support and security to my daughter when she grows up that I have not been privileged to experience myself.
For katherine and "h", thanks for the great reminder that good mothers are to be cherished!! I just hope that I, too, can carry the good mother torch in the future... I will pray the same for you!
Oh and to anne, blessings on your move! So glad your mother will be around to help!! After just making such a switch myself, I will say that having family present is incredible! Prayers!
I read something recently about grandparenting that offered the advice "take what they can give."
I think that unfortunately, sometimes we have expectations about what our moms/mothers in law are going to be able to do for us that set things up to fail. I have been trying recently to see the strengths in the things that all four of my children's grandparents can contribute to our family and to be thankful for those.
That said, I have both a mother and a mother in law who will drop everything to be there when I need them, and I am using both as babysitters in the coming weeks, so I have it pretty good!
Recently, I explained to my mother exactly what I needed as far as labor support, some stuff that my husband has not really been able to do for me, and my mom, who has always been there for my births, immediately agreed to make sure those things were taken care of. I trust that she will do this and it has given me such peace of mind, I had really been dreading this labor. What I am learning, though, is that people can't read your mind, you need to be able to ask for the help that you need.
Hey Bethany-- we will be praying for you as your due date approaches! My mom was here for TEN DAYS after SB came, which was SUCH a Godsend. I loved it when my mom ordered me to take a nap. and did SB's diapers with joy. There are some thing that you only want your mother there for, and childbirth is one of them! Good luck!
