Tone, Trash Talk, and Thanksgiving Turkey: Part V

T minus 16 days until the "big race".
On Sunday, November 23rd, ready or not, we will come.

My knees have been trying to convince me otherwise.
My physical therapist sister tells me I'm getting older and weaker.  Ugh.
Has my youth already escaped me?
Have my muscles begun to defy my almost-30-year-old body?
I pray, NO!!

I guess I'll just have to work harder and actually strength train to get my body back in working running shape.   I guess things won't come as easily as they have over the last three decades.  In the past, I could pretty much pick up and run whenever and for whatever distance.  The old muscle memory and strength kept me in line.

Not so much anymore.
So this is what aging feels like, huh?!
I never thought it'd come, but it has.

No trash talk this week, just hope and prayers.  Hope that I'll be out there on the 23rd.  Prayers that I'll finish.

No trash talk for me either! I have an injury ;-( Sad, but true. My shins are really bothering me. Unlike the other builders in this race (JM and B-Mama), I do not own an elliptical machine. I have been taking to the road and running 3-4 days per week. No more of that! I will only do one more outdoor run before race day. Instead, I will head to a local gym (I bought a 1 month membership), to cross train for the next two weeks. I have adjusted my race day goals accordingly.

I just want to say that B-Mama is full of crap and she is an amazing runner and her race day performance will look like any normal woman at their athletic peak.

Red, you always were always too skinny for your own good anyway, you need some more fat to cushion those poor shin bones.

We are proud of both of you and I want some more hyper-aggressive trash talk from ol JM...

AWOL, honestly I'm starting to feel guilty about all the trash talk because both of my competitors continue to confess their unfitness for this competition. My sitter is here this afternoon, and I savored an 8K+ run outside, racing across sidewalks covered with beautiful colored leaves, breathing the fresh fall air... it was one of those runs you never want to end.

Really, the Philly Inquirer editors can go ahead and set up their cover page for November 24 with my smiling face above the centerfold, trying to look humble but knowing that I'm the hot stepper.

JM,

Be careful! They are trying to lull you into complacency!
