My husband emails me stories like this one on the compensation that a mother deserves ($117,000/year) just to get me riled up.
I'm not sure which is more ridiculous...that someone is trying to quantify the value motherhood or that they think a mom only works 94 hours a week!

I saw a reply to this in some article or another that suggested that if someone were able to quantify such a thing, then some large part of that salary would be the measure of what a full time nanny ought to be paid.
The responses were none too happy...
Oh that hubby of yours, Texas Mommy, he sure likes to stir the pot doesn't he? :)
On a more serious note, I do know that many families, when deciding whether or not a mother should go back to work, decide that it doesn't make financial sense when the cost of child care and household help are factored in. Of course this depends on the mother's profession...In our area, we actually have a large number of stay-at-home dads, where the mom is the one who works.
There are definitely moments when the lure of a dual-income lifestyle beckons... But then I realize that me staying home has infinite value beyond dollar signs. While I appreciate the person who's trying to quantify a mother's contribution to her family, I agree that such a calculation can never made! I'm glad, though, everyone agrees that we, moms, are worth a lot! :) It could be worse...
