Amongst all this high-brow children's literature discussion I would just like to share something.
This morning my 16-month-old son peed in a clean laundry basket. Standing up, without a diaper, peed in this sterling clean laundry basket and then smiled up at me proudly. I can honestly say that I never thought I would be cleaning two inches of light yellow pee out of the bottom of a clean laundry basket. It was kind of cute though, call me sick.

I take it that the basket was empty?
indeed, or else, not a laughing matter.
Hilarious. The joys of pre-toilet training. I think little boys pee places to stake their territory/leave their mark. Like dogs. Not to compare boys to dogs in any other way. I'll leave that for all my yuppie neighbors who sterilized themselves in their thirties and now scowl at my children as they kiss their slobbering dogs on the mouth while baby-talking to them and singing them lullabies.
At least it wasn't on a pile of clean laundry. I'm looking forward to having a boy.
First of all, this is hilarious!
Second, JM, I think the idea of a boy peeing somewhere to leave his mark is both hilarious and ridiculous. I had more problems with my daughter peeing on things (removing her diaper) than my sons ;-) We can't blame all things on the Y chromosome, in this case I think it is simply a toddler thing.
Good luck AWOL mommy, as I fear from experience that there may be more than one incident like this in your future ;-)
AWOL, my little Maria has similar tendencies :) No sooner have we taken her diaper off than she has decided to find a spot to pee-pee...She loves to pretend using the potty, but saves the real thing for our floor :) On the other hand, C wasn't interested in going outside of his diaper until he was actually into potty training - just 2 very different personalities!
