Sacrifices

Me--Um, my fertility just returned.

Mr. Red--Wow.

Me--Gus is only 3 months old. NFP is going to require a LOT of abstaining.

Mr. Red--(Silence.)

Me--Well, what do you think?

Mr. Red--I think it’s time to jack-up the Netflix subscription - I’ll need the unlimited plan.

are you serious?

...I fail to see why anyone would want to post this onto the internet.

I fail to see why anyone would want to post half nude pictures of themselves on the internet.

I fail to see why anyone would want to post crude, demeaning jokes about women, Catholics, or the elderly on the internet.

I fail to see why anyone would want to post questions or advice about kinky sex or methods of birth control on the internet.

But we take all this in without batting an eye, then someone gets offended that a couple shares (with tasteful humor) how they are dealing with the use of Natural Family Planning within their marriage. Are you serious??

I liked the post too. It's nice to hear about other couples share about their experience with NFP and I can totally relate!

Happily, though Felicity is about 5 1/2 months old, my fertility has not returned so if God blessed us, we would just honestly raise our hands in innocent ignorance. lol.

Bella comes out on Tuesday. We haven't seen it yet and are going to Netflix it.

NFP only requires abstaining if you have a grave reason to postpone having another child.

“Consequently to embrace the state of matrimony, to use continually the faculty proper to it, and in it alone, and on the other hand to withdraw always and deliberately, without a grave motive, from its primary duty, would be to sin against the very meaning of conjugal life” (A.A.S., 43 [1951] 845-846). -- Pius XII

One of the things missing from most NFP teaching is that it is only licit to use when there is a grave reason to postpone having children. Otherwise it succumbs to the same contraceptive mentality it is designed to defeat.

I am not, of course, saying that you _don't_ have a grave reason, as I don't know you. Some people, however, might interpret your post to say that you are postponing children merely because you have one child who is very young.

On the flip side, if you _have_ prudentially determined that you have a grave reason to postpone children, KUDOS to Mr. Red for his fortitude. Might I also recommend the purchase of a Wii, which is a very physical pastime. (Or a treadmill, for that matter. Mrs. Red will appreciate the results, to be sure.)

Fianlly, to the initial poster: these women, with great courage, are posting their daily struggles with mothering /perenting / family, etc. on the internet for the benefit of all women (and men). Such things are to be applauded. The reason people "want" to post such things is for the edification of all, and the increase of the Body of Christ. The dialog here is of inestimable value, even -- or especially -- when it touches such private things as a couple's struggle to abstain.
