When you are five...

--You can tie your own shoes.
--You get your first pair of roller skates.
--You ask for a birthday trip to the hair salon with your mom.
--You are emphatic that your cake must be pink and be decorated with flowers. You explain that this requirement can be satisfied with either pink icing and white flowers or white icing with pink flowers. But it must be pink, and it must have flowers.
--You can play board games.
--When you need to vomit, you make it to the toilet in time (we learned this during a recent stomach bug).
--When other people in your family are also vomiting, you understand that your birthday party needs to be moved to the following weekend.
--When you are done vomiting, you realize there are certain foods you cannot eat for a while.
-- You can read, sort of (but not when vomiting).

--You are a real kid!

Happy 5th birthday, G! She looks like such a big girl, I can't believe it Red! I know what you mean, now that C is almost 5 he is really feeling like a "big kid".

Amazing! There are such fun stages to all this stuff, and it is great that birthdays come along to make you take the time to notice how much kids have grown. This was also a good reminder for me to enjoy and celebrate the "four-ness" of my twins and not try to force them to be big kids too soon, it will all come with time.

Red, I feel like I saw your big girl not that long ago, but in this picture she looks so much like a "kid". I remember watching this happen to Alice's two oldest, amazing the switch seems to happen so fast.

Tell her a big Happy Birthday from us and we love her cake.
