The Things They Pick Up On...

Dash (3 years old) commenting on the various methods of cooking in the Incredible home:

"Sometimes we cook with the grill and sometimes we cook with the stove," pausing he looked at Mommy and added, "And sometimes we cook with the coffee maker."

And sometimes he is more right than he knows! The stove and grill I could live without, but don't mess with the coffee maker!

Lol. Texas Mommy, I always appreciate your candid nature about not being a morning person! I also really dislike mornings. Mr. calls me "Late Night" ;-)

AMen, Tex. My chillins would probably list: grill, stove, coffee pot, espresso pot. That's right, I even have to take it to the next level in my home! No shame - whatever it takes to kickstart an upbeat mommy is legit in my book.

I too enjoy my cup of coffee in the morning (although decaf is all I can handle). Any suggestions for breaking a habit of treating myself to a small Starbucks mocha almost daily? I ratinalize it because I eat my meals and snacks at home for the msot part, but the expense still adds up, especially in this economy. Any suggestions would be great!

Courtney,

Yes! Here's what I do to remove the temptation to buy coffee. Save Starbucks coffee cups or buy nice portable/disposable coffee go-cups. I much prefer drinking coffee out of a Starbucks or Seattle's Best go-cup, not a mug at home--I think it tastes better (clearly I've been successfully marketed to), and I like that I can take it with me on the go. Then buy the nicest beans and other ingredients you like (on sale if possible). Do you have a Trader Joe's? They have fair trade, excellent quality beans at lower price, and you can grind them there in the store if you don't have a grinder at home, so you know they're fresh. Then set up your machine the night before so all you have to do is hit "on" in the morning. Then pour it into your go-cup, and go. This works for me, b/c I have (1) the instant gratification of just hitting "on" and having it ready a couple minutes later, not having to actually feel like I've made it myself right then and there (2) the charming disposable go-cup and (3) the nice beans and ingredients to make it taste great. Saves a TON of money. Good luck!!!!!
